URGENT - Fairness before the law for Metaos Wahba - URGENT

Your Excellency,

I am writing to you on behalf of Metaos Wahba, who is a Christian priest in Cairo, who is presently still imprisoned in Tora prison near Cairo.

Metaos Wahba is from the Santa-Maria church at Gizeh. He was accused of forgery of documents. He married a Christian man with a female Christian convert from Islam.

Allegedly the marriage documents of that woman were forged. Pastor Metaos Wahba, however, did not know about the forgery, when he married this couple with the good intentions of the blessings of the Church.

Metaos Wahba was sentenced to five years imprisonment for that.

Your Excellency, it seems there is a big problem with the law in Egypt: Conversion is not allowed in Egypt although this is part of Article 18 of the human rights which your country has signed. Converts are punished, discriminated and persecuted in Egypt. This is something which is clearly against the law.

Neither to choose freely ones personal belief nor to marry a person of a different religious belief should be prohibited in Egypt. I very much hope that the priest Metaos Wahba will receive a new and fair trial and that also his innocence will be taken into account. Thank you for your attention.

Yours faithfully,

Wilhelm H. Ludwig
